What is the American National Standards that apply for wooden poles to be used as telephone poles?
By admin | August 17, 2009
Telephone poles have to meet specific standards as well as quality specifications that are mandatory for manufacturers to comply with, in terms of utility pole production and supply. In the US, telephone poles have been standardized and nation standards applied for over 7 decades. The code for utility (including telephone) poles in the US is known as ANSI 05 standard. This standard specifies the exact kind of wood that is allowed, the moisture content, shape as well as size of wood that can be used for the purpose of utility poles. While this standard has a vintage of over 35 years, some amendments have been made in it in the form of extension ANSI 05.1, in view of the need for changes and upgrades in the standard.
