Another Network Cable – Shielded Cat 5 Cable

By admin | January 27, 2008

A shielded what??  Shielded Cat 5 Cable, are Cat 5 cables with foil that covers the wires inside the cables.  It has this foil that is used primarily to prevent any electro magnetic interference that could corrupt data that travels your lan cable.  These EMI or noise are prevented by the foil to enter your cables.  We did not use these cables because it’s much expensive, but we also considered where our cables would run.  EMI’s are true, they exist, they could come from generators, motors, or even from common lighting we use in the office.  So just run your cables, away from these EMI sources and your safe.
