Lifestyle changes for high blood pressure can be a red herring
By admin | February 4, 2008
It can be very difficult to determine the cause of high blood pressure. Natural methods involving lifestyle changes to lower blood pressure are all the rage. Improving lifestyle is always a good thing to work at, especially for prevention, but it often has nothing to do with your blood pressure.
For example, many people with super healthy lifestyles get high blood pressure. Conversely, there are some people with obvious problems such as obesity or heavy drinking who nonetheless have normaly blood pressure. This is probably due to genetic factors. If you are prone to hardening of the arteries as you age your blood pressure will increase regardless of your lifestyle.
What this means is that if you already lead a healthy lifestyle and you get high blood pressure you should consider other forms of treatment rather than wasting too much time with further lifestyle improvements.
