Will I Need a Fiber Optic Switch?

By admin | September 2, 2010

This question is largely dependent on your network infrastructure. Large corporations like to make use of fiber optic systems purely because their network covers a very large geographic region. Because fiber optics uses light beams to submit network packets, this is an extremely fast and reliable means of networking computers together, but will require expensive fiber optic switch technology. If you are a conventional home user, or you wish to establish a network for a small office building, standard Ethernet technology will provide you with enough speed and reliability. Modern NIC’s can perform up to 1000mbps. If you use a standard network switch, your network will perform very consistently.
