Language Control

Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Apple. And of the iPod, although my Nike chip is another story entirely. But I saw a blogpost today that concerned me, as a writer and copywriter. It seems Apple is taking legal action against anyone who sells a media player with the word “pod” in it. Examples include “podium,” and “Mypod.” Because I work in Ann Arbor advertising, I do understand the motive, obviously to put their brand in people’s possession. But, like another blogger said, “let’s hope they don’t attempt a coup of the exclusive rights over the letter “i.” It’s a slippery slope, people!
